It's speculation, but it isn't wild. Ram has doubled in price, and that sudden markup on the cost of the chipset came out of nowhere. Those increased costs have swallowed up the profit Steam were expecting and more.
This thing was always going to be more expensive that the Quest 3. Now account for how crazy the market for ram and storage has gotten.
No way it's it less than $1000. There is literally no way. It sucks but that's where we are right now.

They already got a whole batch of headsets shipped to their warehouse... Why are they increasing the price for something they've already made. Why aren't they increasing the price further down the line for other batches of headsets they make wtf lol

And then bought a Pimax Dream Air for £1800 (great spec)

The memory shortage and rising chip costs may have inflated the Steam Frame price more than feared. A Valve leaker believes it could debut at much higher than $1100, but under $1500. A release date as soon as August 3rd is also possible for the VR headset, with reviews to follow.
