Signatures mean absolutely nothing & are not a representation of people that like physical media. The signatures are just the vocal people. You're neglecting to acknowledge the gamers that will simply just stop buying Sony products & there are a lot of them.

Console sales don't make money for them. Game sales do. It's the 10% which are buying 25+ games. So it may matter to them if like 30% of their revenue drops because of that.

I'm also not sure how much they'd save killing this considering the people hardcore about physical media while a smaller demographic, are willing to overpay for the privilege. Like pay $100+, so they should still be able to maintain decent profitability.

Users is about 0.21% of there clientele.
 I don't think they will care if they lose less than 1%because they will save more then that by not making discs...they win

Sony has been under fire for weeks now, and a lot of industry veterans have shared their opinions on its decision to kill physical game discs. Another Japanese developer has chimed in, stating that it might as well get rid of the hardware altogether.
