That's how the market works.  Rather than have the government subsidize EV's, people simply want them to stand on their own.  If high gas prices does that, great!  It gets more consumers in EV's.  I drive a PHEV which for me is a far better solution until charging infrastructure and cold weather performance improves. I cover 80% of my miles on electric and long trips on gas as needed.
