Edit: I think the issue they have above is that "Up to 2 TB" thing in the specs; it's just the largest they offer to configure, or preconfigured, not the largest supported drive. If one has an 8 TB 2280 laying around, they can use it just fine.

Yes, crazy indeed. At this point an Apple Air should be looked at (tho it doesn't have 64 GB of RAM). AFAIK, a DRAM chip consumes power too and may lead to a shorter battery time. Some of the RAM is used to greatly compensate the missing DRAM chip and, depending on your workload, you are not going to notice the missing DRAM chip.
