Correct, DOA it is. But even for 1500 it's too much (Strix Halo is 4060 Laptop level of performance, see 3dmark.com/search) and only 32 GB RAM and it's soldered. One can get a used 4080 Laptop for 1500 (sometimes even cheaper).

You keep repeating this in every thread but the main concern today isn't this, it's supply & pricing.

What are Nvidia doing to address this? Absolutely nothing.

What is AMD doing? Pretty much copying Nvidia for laptops (aka ignoring the market needs) but at least they're venturing into newer markets like halo NUCs/handhelds, which while niche are somewhat cheaper and in increasingly more availability relatively speaking.

Everyone left is basically a participant in the system scamming everyone else. The few smaller companies that didn't play ball end up getting exited (like EVGA) or bought out completely.

I'm still of the firm belief that this system/bubble is going to fall apart soon due to what's happening in current geopolitics. By the time that war ends, there will be a reckoning like no other. The world is going to change and it's never going to be the same again.

Until that happens, it's just not interesting anymore discussing any laptop APU from either company.

Case in point: I own a G14 outfitted with a R9 & fairly decent iGPU. However it ALSO has a mid-range Nvidia dGPU.

AMD COULD offer APU's with their better iGPU's for use in budget & low cost laptops however that would likely p*** OFF Sony & Microsoft because they both rely on the high cost of "PC Gaming" as one of the selling points to make their consoles attractive.

However, now we have Intel releasing APU's with decent/usable iGPU's. Surely Intel needs a WIN and while nether Sony or Microsoft buy APU's from Team Blue, Intel COULD place i3/i5/i7 APU's with decent iGPU's in the SUB-$1000 laptop market and few (if any!) might pay extra for a Nvidia dGPU powered laptop. (which it seems Nvidia does not want to be in the "gaming GPU" business anyway) Sadly, however recent Intel+Nvidia deals/agreements may of killed this possibility.

Strix Halo's iGPU is RDNA3.5 tho, and as such it can't do quality hardware upscaling, like NVIDIA's DLSS. Only AMD RDNA4 does that, but it's not available in iGPUs. On top of this, it doesn't look like AMD is going to officially allow INT8 based upscaling on RDNA3.5.

Having the ability to allocate more VRAM to the GPU has several gaming and AI benefits. I own a quality R7 260 + 5060 laptop myself. Cheaper than $1499, sure, but limited nonetheless. You also don't have to deal with GPU switching headaches, and can feasibly fit a single SOC in a lighter chassis vs SOC + dGPU.

And sadly it doesn't look like Intel is interested in opening up their WiFi 7 capabilities to AMD systems. For the time being, Intel's 6E is the best 6E you can run on an AMD platform. If you want to run 7 on AMD, you have to go Mediatek or Qualcomm.

Pricing is even more absurd than Galaxy Book6 and Xperia 1 VII..

Which I initially thought was a terrible deal but now looking at these laptop prices (both from AMD and intel).. it's looking more and more reasonable, considering the current climate and situation we're in. Few years later and paying $1000 or more is going to become the norm for consoles. God knows how much laptops will cost then.

I feel like there's going to be a surge in handheld sales. Nobody can afford any of these laptop prices.

Btw, this garbage uses realtek WiFi lol. Both apple and Asus are cutting corners. Atleast onexfly apex uses intel WiFi.

They've got to be kidding you can get high end RTX 5060 laptops for $600 cheaper. Not even budget ones which are far cheaper. This isn't even AMDs usual B.S. of -$50 to -$100 of compared to competitor products from Nvidia.

steam machine is easily going to have no competition and sell well.

They could sell it at some obscene $999 price and it'll still be far better value than any of these halo or panther lake laptops.

I don't have much hope for n1x or X2 Elite laptop pricing just judging by how absurd the market is right now.
