never understood the stupidity of paying 1000 bucks for a phone and hiding the design under a 10 bucks case.

Naked phones for many people are simply not an option, and while skins might protect against scratches, they offer little in the way of drop protection. Aramid fiber cases offer the best compromise of protection, without adding unnecessary bulk.
