Proper cameras encourage better and more enjoyable photography. Phones encourage fastfoodization of pictures.

Just came back from a trip using a film camera. The experience was totally different, people weren't posing in those stupid instagram poses done for noone, people were posing as people as themselves.

That's what makes photos fun and cool.

Also no surprise people would be reaching for a compact camera, with the majority of the world using iPhone taking pictures really sucks.

Camera sales declined every year from 2017 and 2023. However, this trend now appears to be shifting: Following a modest growth in 2024, sales rose again in 2025, with mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras dominating the market.
