This isn't the first of its kind. I'm curious to see how it will compare to my current 27" portable TV/monitor. Will it have comparable performance, or be sub-par?

No, my Samsung tab 29 ultra gets over that easily at 1440p.

ok but, going higher than 1080p on a BATTERY POWERED fairly large portable screen 1080 isn't a bad compromise in making the most out battery life.
