Chery decided to stop r&d & trying to compete with the existing liquid Li-ion battery tech. instead focused on the newer solid-state battery tech.

I don't get this part, meaning if they had not started as a start-up ,compared to the already established brands, they couldn't have achieved their target ?

The top car exporting brand in China has announced a solid-state battery that pushes the energy density limits of the technology. It will land in its premium vehicles in 2027, a common commercialization deadline for most solid-state battery efforts.
