The purpose was never to sell units to begin with. It's just a platform for Microsoft to do alpha stage software testing for their upcoming OS.

For Asus, the margins are decent so they're okay with it. It's not like they're selling at production cost or loss like actual consoles do.

Anyway, no clue why anyone would bother waiting for this when there's already Xenia emu around which plays most of the entire library not just a curated selection. Not to mention this will likely require logging into an online Microsoft account to use.

That still wouldn't move units of specifically the Ally because that would work on all of Windows, not just the Ally, unless they make it stupidly Ally-only software somehow at which point people will just use a 360 emulator like they've been doing.

The ROG Xbox Ally leaves behind some Xbox games exclusive to Microsoft's consoles. The company may turn to an Xbox 360 emulator for PCs to enhance its backward compatibility. New Xbox consoles in development with AMD could also support these games without relying solely on Windows.
