Curious what disadvantages you see.
Are you concerned with mapbox software or osm data?
You are suggesting missing roads. Which area is it for? I have had good experience with osm. Obviously it is meaningless stat with n=1

It will probably be with Here Maps with whom they have had a very long relationship

If this happens and functionality or accuracy is degraded, I wonder what rights the consumer has to redress??

I guess the support will be of the same quality as that for the maps of the golf courses which are 5 years out of date at the moment.

Superior to GMaps?? You're kidding right?
Half the roads are not covered by MB and I have yet to see anything innovative. The only reason they exist is because you can embed MB maps into other apps, which you can't do with Google.

I don't which Mapbox you're using, but it's not the same as mine.

Mapbox is a superior product in terms of software performance, design, usability, and data, especially where one might go with your Garmin. And it's easy to bring any additional and custom data.

Garmin is apparently preparing a rather significant change to its maps. This should not result in major changes to the basic functionality of Garmin smartwatches, but the maps might look unfamiliar in at least one instance.
