I, for one, expect no less that 32K,1440° performance, anything less is sub-par, if not just horrible! :)

Quote"GoPro has finally released the Max 2, seven months after the launch of the Max 2025 (curr. $2499 on Amazon)"
Typo.. it's $249.99

The problem with their claim is that they've seized on one feature and kind of ignored the (ahem) bigger picture. The Osmo 360 has a square 1/1.15" sensor with a resolution of 3840x3840 on each side, so technically 4Kx4K per side making it 8Kx4K (it's a bit more complicated because these are fisheye lenses). However, each pixel contains 4 subpixels: 1 red, 1 blue and two green, that are independent and in high res mode, that increases the resolution to 16Kx8K.

The bigger advantage is that each pixel in the sensor is larger letting it capture more light and that means better pics in low light situations. My own tests bare this out.

As for in-camera post processing - ALL 360 cameras do this. It's how you get from two fisheye images to one seamless panorama image. But you can also set the Osmo to DLog-M and post process the colour.

Will the GoPro Max 2 be better than the Osmo 360 or Insta360 X5? Maybe, but these specific claims kind of sound a bit on the desperate side.

GoPro has snapped back at DJI and Insta360 with the Max 2. Marketed as the 'only true 8K 360 camera', GoPro has implied that its rivals use 'misleading upscaling' and 'AI-generated content to achieve their claims, too.
