This is truly unfortunate. I really enjoyed FC6, and had just played Diablo IV before it. (Finally getting around to Cyberpunk 2077, and wow what a game.) I do not want multiplayer. I like to focus on my game and not have distractions, random usernames popping in and out. I don't want to "help" random players or team up or converse or see them in town. I don't want to mute people or get harrassed because I didn't do something right, fast enough, or made a mistake.
And I generally enjoy being social. It's just in my games I do tend to escape a bit. And the real-life friends I do have we do not play video games together, we go for walks, hang out in our homes, go out for coffee. We're all adults, and setting up that chunk of time to play games is nearly impossible, nor do I see anyone else wanting it.
And I even support multiplayer. I used to play Quake III:Arena pretty much nonstop. Left4Dead, etc. I can totally see the appeal in games like GTA:Online, Battlefield, and MMORPGs. Just not my thing. There's a feeling of competition I no longer enjoy in life with those games, but I'm glad other people have those options.
Future Far Cry releases might take a more multiplayer-centric approach in a bid to boost replayability and drive long-term engagement, as per Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.
