Transformers only operate on alternating current. He made a converter for direct current step down. Same thing only different.

Many e bike batteries come with 5v power outlets 3amp max. Mine has em built rite in. I power portable guitar amps with it when not riding

May be ok if you have a battery already, but there are many large portable battery packs available for sell today.
