Samsung entwickelt die Peltier Kühltechnologie konsequent weiter und hat gemeinsam mit dem Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory ein neuartiges Dünnschicht-Halbleiterelement vorgestellt. Ziel ist die Realisierung hocheffizienter Kühlsysteme ohne den Einsatz klassischer Kältemittel. Die neue Technik ist jedoch noch nicht serienreif, sondern befindet sich in einem beschleunigten Entwicklungsprozess.
