Quote from: anan on July 10, 2025, 09:02:43The source article kinda references a 20 year lifetime for passenger vehicles. Wonder if they've accounted for a possible battery replacement for EVs during this time.

Does it matter? When there is a 4x difference. On top of that there is use of a battery past its vehicle life.

QuoteBecause right now replacing a battery on a 10 year old EV is not economically viable. The price of a new battery far exceeds the remaining value of an EV with a dead battery.

How is that different from an ICE car? An engine replacement after 10 years would be worth more than the car itself too.

Because right now replacing a battery on a 10 year old EV is not economically viable. The price of a new battery far exceeds the remaining value of an EV with a dead battery. Replacing it with a used battery might still be costly and could extend the life by just a few years (since you need to find a battery from roughly the same generation).

It now takes only 10,500 miles of driving for an electric car to become greener than a comparable gas-powered vehicle. The International Council on Clean Transportation has run the numbers on the greenhouse gas emissions for the lifecycle of electric vehicles.
