One of the big issue of many chinese manhua(comics/manga) and anime is they suffer from "Attention Deficit Disorder" (ADD). It is clear the ones making the content don't care about it. They are just trying to jump from scene to scene ignoring the transition.

While from a completeness standpoint, transition is wasted frames that uses more resources because you spend a lot of time on art that most people will ignore and doesn't make up the actual content. It is specifically that transition that makes the content feel more engaging and immersive.

Unfortunately, most Chinese manhua and animation have not picked up on that fact.

As for 3D, the big reason why most 3D sucks is because most animation don't know how to use it, many just try to emulate 2D in 3D where it ends up bad. Take RWBY for example where it shows where 3D could shine (specifically the first 3 seasons). The combat animation where multiple entities move simultaneously to become one big picture during combat is amazing work that shows how 3D can shine in ways 2D can't.

The great thing about lord of mysteries is how slow paced and detailed it was, the thought processes and the quirkiness of Klein. I just don't see how they could capture his lampooning or deference to every pound while squishing in chapters.

There are some very good 2D donghua. There's Blade of the Guardians, Fog Hill of the Five Elements, and now Lord of Mysteries.

But yeah, even 3D donghua can look extremely good. Not sure I'm a fan of AI being used to create art, though.

Another advantage is they can be in higher resolution than standard anime which is mostly in FHD max.
Thankfully, AI capable of creating 2D animated art comes, so I w8sh that anime also gains some 3K and 4K resolution.
