The reason behind these sales figures has nothing to do with Tesla's products, but is rather a result of political decisions made in the United States. As consumers, we are fully entitled to choose or reject suppliers. Below is a list of factors that may influence some consumers' decision to avoid Tesla products. I believe this trend could potentially extend to other product categories, research collaborations, and tourism.
A majority of Americans have elected a government that accuses the EU of being an unfair trading partner. From a European perspective, this seems paradoxical, as:
The U.S. GDP is higher than that of the EU. (The U.S. undeniably has more financial resources, yet a significant portion of Americans support an economic model that favors the wealthy, under the assumption that benefits will eventually trickle down. Given their economic strength, it seems unconvincing when the U.S. portrays itself as a victim in trade relations.)
The data used to justify this alleged trade imbalance is incomplete – services and software are either entirely omitted or only partially included. (A majority of Americans have voted for a leader known to manipulate facts and mislead the public — a leadership style that has historically caused concern in Europe. Elan Musk did not make things better with the salute historical used by European fascist Benito Mussolini and Hitler, and this detail will hit Tesla sales )
And the fact that the U.S. has increasingly opposed Europe in votes at the UN Security Council and instead aligned with so-called rogue states, and don´t get me started on Greenland.
The disturbing part is not that some individuals turn out to be unpleasant leaders or unreliable partners — what is truly unsettling is that a majority of the population supports this direction.
The strength of a democracy is that citizens get the government they vote for, and the consequences of that choice rest with the individual voter. In this case, with the American people.
While governments in Europe have no intention of initiating conflict with the United States, we as citizens can choose where to place our trust — and where to spend our money.
Kinda interesting. BYD prices in EU are mostly on par with Tesla within the same segments. But BYD has several cheaper models. I could not find BYD EU sales by model but I suspect the cheapest ones dominate there. Basically, there is pent up demand for cheaper EVs in EU. Overall car sales declined but within those EV sales rose. It could be that people optioned for a pricier EV over a faster replacement of their current ICE.
New data shows Tesla had the fourth consecutive month of market share loss in Europe in April. The carmaker saw 50 percent fewer new electric car registrations in the same period when the continent's EV market expanded more than 26 percent.
