Of course, there are major differences in the types of AI used in games. But this was Shuntaro Furukawa's response (linked in the article) when asked about generative AI:

"In the gaming industry, AI-like technologies have long been used – for example, to control the movements of opponents – so I believe that game development and AI technology have always had a close relationship. Geneative AI, which has recently become a major topic, can be used in creative ways, but we recognize that it can also evoke problems related to intellectual property rights."

I assume that because Furukawa brought up AI used to program enemies, that's why it was part of this article. I also don't see a problem with having a broader discussion about AI in games, and what ways developers should or shouldn't be using it.

Quote from: Trebeck on May 10, 2025, 22:01:38Huh? Game developers have definitely been using AI in that way. Just ask google:

"Yes, game developers frequently use AI to create more realistic and dynamic enemy behavior in video games. AI can enable enemies to react to player actions in real-time, learn from player patterns, and adapt their tactics to offer a more challenging and immersive experience."

This is like taking a potato chip and a potato and saying they're the same thing. Generative AI and CPU's in video games are NOT the same, PLEASE do more research than Google's shitty AI summary (which, half the time quotes Reddit as a reliable source)
AI in video games cannot generate images, nor is it what this article is covering. This article is covering generative AI, which is what you'd go to chat GPT for (such as if you want a photo generated in the style of Ghibli) and which is notoriously controversial as it's been replacing a lot of artists.

"Most gamers aren't opposed to developers using AI to make enemies behave more realistically." Can you please learn what AI is before you excrete another article?

Nintendo is adamant that Mario Kart World tracks do not use AI images. A Treehouse presentation caused speculation with distorted billboard images. Nintendo has been cautious about introducing generative AI to game development.
