Could be no big boi was the plan. Then they saw 50xx are barely any improvement at all outside of software tricks and said awww damn, we can compete. Lets make a big boi too.

After AMD today dropped details about the launch of its next-gen RDNA4 GPUs, its head of consumer and gaming marketing, Frank Azor, shot down rumours of a high RAM variant of the upcoming Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU. However, he seems to have left the door open for speculation of a higher-spec version of RDNA 4.
