QuoteUnfortunately, the discount only applies to the 128 GB storage variant, which isn't nearly enough for a device launched in 2023.

Sure it is.  Sitting here with 40/128GB in use on my Pixel 9 Pro.  It has never topped 50GB.
My Partner is using ~60 GB of 128 on her OnePlus 12r.

The cost of a yearly cloud subscription is far less year-over-year than a storage upgrade, PLUS I can store data from a wide variety of devices.

And yeah, we take an average amount of pictures/videos and she has a gob-smacking amazing number of apps (90+)

Also, this phone was about $500 off in May 2024.  If you are still considering a Pixel 8 based on cost it definitely isn't worth it compared to a 9.

A new promotion makes the Google Pixel 8 Pro $250 cheaper than usual, but only on Amazon. The limited-time deal only applies to the 128 GB storage variant of the smartphone.
