Let's ban technological progress and take an example from backward countries, which with bombs and chemicals, spills of nuclear fuel and oil, and chemical weapons pollute the environment even more than "emissions" every day.

The industries supporting AI is already known for a lot of blood. Semiconductor manufacturing is single handedly responsible for a lot of air pollution, mainly particulates. Electronic recycling has continued to ruin some third world countries. Geopolitical competition for AI dominance is intensifying wars, AI is used in weapons systems and autonomous killing machines.
