This is planned obsolescence by Apple.

The iPad Pro 10.5" has a more powerful SoC and more RAM than the iPad 7 but the iPad 7 will get ipadOS 18 and the Pro will not. Go figure Apple's logic.

Apple's imminent WWDC 24 event is expected to introduce the latest version of iPadOS as well as its iOS 18 counterpart for iPhones. An impressively long list of devices are now linked to eligibility for either major software upgrade - with a few notable exceptions. In addition, iPadOS' rumored AI features may be available to a handful of devices.
