Dear Notebookcheck readers,
we would like to add some more information to Notebookcheck's review of XMG FOCUS 17.
XMG FOCUS 15 and XMG FOCUS 17 are essentially the same laptop, only with a different display. Since the review text of the FOCUS 17 discussed here is largely identical to the previously published
review text of the FOCUS 15, we would like to point out our statement again, which we posted under the review of the FOCUS 15 4 weeks ago:
•
XMG response to Notebookcheck review of XMG FOCUS 15 (Google Translate)The statement consists of the following parts:
- Fan control and performance profiles
- Power consumption in idle mode
- Sound quality
- 4GB GDDR6 capacity of the RTX 3050 Ti
- Price
- Further information
The first two paragraphs of the statement indicate that Notebookcheck tested the laptop exclusively in the "Performance" profile. This profile is used to squeeze out the last reserves of performance out of the system. For everyday applications (including gaming and content creation), we recommend the "Entertainment" mode, which runs the system in its
efficiency optimum while still demonstrating very good CPU and GPU performance.
Descriptions in the review text that refer to fan control in idle, maximum fan noise under load and allegedly high idle energy consumption should therefore be taken with a grain of salt, unless they are put into context with comparative data points measured in Entertainment mode.
The differentiated testing of at least two performance profiles (or at the minimum: a comparison of a few representative benchmarks) is an absolute necessity for modern thin & light gaming laptops in order to get a comprehensive picture of the notebook's suitability for everyday use.
