If you just want to play games and you're not even interested in overclocking, even something as low as 11400 will do just fine. That's under $200. I would say put the difference towards GPU... if only they were available.

Something like 5950X is really more for professionals who can use those cores. No game can. At best, you might benefit from better bin.

Top tier isn't that much better anymore. You benefits just don't add up vs the added cost hit. No doubt this is not the best time to be building that optimal gaming rig you've wanted. unless you need the cores for applications other than gaming.... the 5600x is your friend. I bought mine for $299 on ebay.

anything beyond the 5600x for games (at least right now) is overkill and a half.
