Simply make two versions, one closed system with 499-799 price and another open system version with 1000-1500 price so this won't be a loss making. They can also provide an option to upgrade to open system version for a price of 499-699. Pc gamers won't mind spending 1200 for a hybrid console if 1000 priced steam machines are also getting sold.

I can understand the logic, but the prices would have to be raised. The Series X apparently costs Microsoft $950 to make, and with even more powerful hardware, it'd have to be a decent amount more than $499-$799 for the "closed" version.

The mistake you're making is attempting to understand a company that changes decisions every ducking 5 minutes, for the last 13+ years.

Steam compatibility would give Project Helix an advantage over the PS6. Unfortunately, the perk threatens to inflate the price of the new Xbox console. An insider believes that Microsoft may be reevaluating the hybrid approach to maximize revenue and lower costs.
