The Pocketbook line-up is confusing and ever-changing so here is a comparison of the new Era Light with the previous Verse (not Verse Pro).

The Era Light has a new 7" Carta 1300 screen which means higher resolution (1264x1680 and 300 ppi) compared with the 6" Carta 1200 (758 x 1024, 212 ppi) on the Verse. The enhanced contrast will be welcome.

The Era Light has 16 GB storage and 1 GB operating memory versus 8 GB and 512 MB. More books on hand (but see below) and smoother operation.

The Era Light has a 1700 mAh battery versus 1500 mAh. It has BlueTooth and operating system improvements over the Verse including built-in library support.

The Era Light has the physical buttons on the side versus the bottom of the unit. Some folks will prefer one over the other.

The Era Light weighs 23g more (205g versus 182g). It costs €200 versus €160 though the Verse is currently discounted to €135. So there is a significant difference in price as we would expect for a brand new product (summer 1026) against stock 3 years old.

The one advantage of the older Verse is the microSD slot. But if we take 30MB per book as an average then 16 GB stores over 500 books. The idea is that you can freely transfer using WiFi at any time. I would want my entire collection backed up, so having it all on a portable device is not a priority. Use Calibre to manage and life is easy.

The Verse is cheaper. You lose an inch of diagonal, but it supports microSD expansion, which I find vital so I cash store my entire eBook collection.
