The fact that a reservation queue is needed in the first place?

It's a perception issue. People tend to overhype anything that Valve does as a whole.

Nobody would be bothered much if this was some small Chinese Kickstarter project doing it but Valve is acting like this when they're a multi billion $ company with decades of experience.

Besides, do measures ever work? Every year, scalpers still somehow manage to bypass the system and resell en masse.

Why is that an issue?
New customers can wait until availability is less constrained. A lot of veteran customers will have to wait too, so... Shrug.

Alternatively, they can buy or build a similar HW small-PC and use SteamOS.
I see no issue.
