Nobody expects this to be cheap, yet everybody will be shocked at the price it will launch at.

Memory prices and supplies are so volatile these days that it's hard to launch something without having to revise the price later.

The longer they wait, the worse the prices get - but they cannot launch with a price they cannot guarantee more than a few months either.

All that for unimpressive, overpriced hardware no less.

Nobody cares anymore. First they said early 2026, then it became first half of 2026. Both deadlines half passed.

What kind of company makes announcements of new products coming and then forgets to buy enough memory before hand for it?

This is gross incompetence. If this is how they're treating consumers before hand just imagine how after sale support and messaging is going to be, which is usually far worse.

They made their first reveal / announcement what, like 8 months ago? Meaning they should bought the memory several months before that. This was before the shortage, they had the time.

I was really interested in one but when they rose the price of the deck to almost $1000, it was the final nail in the coffin.

Valve has confirmed that the Steam Machine remains on track for a summer launch, but key details are still missing. There is no price, no exact release date and no clear indication of when the next major update will arrive. On Reddit, one user is now warning fans not to overdose on "hopium" ahead of upcoming gaming events, pointing instead to Valve's previous hardware announcements.
