Strauss Zelnick, CEO von Take-Two Interactive, erklärte, dass das Unternehmen zusätzlich umgerechnet ca. 46 Millionen Euro investierte und die Veröffentlichung des ursprünglichen Borderlands um mehr als ein Jahr verschob, damit Gearbox Software den düsteren, realistischen Look durch den heute charakteristischen Cel-Shading-Stil ersetzen konnte.
