What does
compact (tablet) mean to you? Do you mean something like the 2019 Galaxy Tab A 8.0 with its 8.0" screen? That's one of the smallest tablets on the market (give it a go and find something smaller:
https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?mode=tablet&fDisplayInchesMax=8), it measures 210 × 124.4 × 8 mm. This Xiaomi here, by comparison, has a display 2" larger and measures 226.5 × 147.9 × 7.4 mm.
Now let's crunch the numbers, purely some basic math from the elementary school: Samsung is 210 × 124.4 = 26,124 mm², Xiaomi is 226.5 × 147.9 = 33,537 mm². Xiaomi is 7,413 / 26,124 × 100% = 28.37% larger. While having a 56.25% larger display area (both 16:10), (10" / 8")² = 1.5625 = 56.25%.
Fairly compact, and that was, again, compared to one of the smallest existing tablets on the Android market ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
