Your company versus gaming analysis - hehe, well done:)

For most people Macs probably fine? Here you lose me. To start with, why then don't most people buy Macs? Obviously, not as fine for most as you casually throw in.

Unlike you, I am sure about the upgradability aspect - people should punish all those companies and models without upgradability by abstaining so that they are forced to alter their product philosophy towards the better.

@fb020997:

All those reasons are fine for me, even the pricing is reasonable for a MB air in UK.

The biggest issue for me is no emulator developer recommends macbooks despite in their professional jobs often getting them for free in their workplace.

This is despite the fact that you can run asahi linux on MacBook air, just fine. Despite all this, the general consensus is, "if you wanna game just get a steam deck". I mean, that's pretty bad, when dev can't recommend one.

Apple is similar to Google, all this money but not interested at all in gaming. I'm pretty sure if they made a serious effort they could do it with all the money they've but there doesn't seem to be much motivation from their leadership at all.

I mean, Microsoft is actively trying to sabotage the gaming experience on Windows. How hard can it be? Yet even Linux is still recommended over Mac, and superior to gaming despite running windows games non natively.

But yeh, if you don't care about gaming at all, for most people macs probably fine. I'm not sure I agree with upgradability aspect or lack of it. It's not like you can upgrade many windows laptops. Look at lunar lake or strix halo for example.

But you must use macOS (or VMs), which I can't stand, or some obscure Linux, which I also really dislike in general. And a MBA cannot be upgraded AT ALL, has a glued battery, has just two ports and isn't OLED. And let's not forget the absurd Apple storage and RAM price... a 32GB+1TB Air 13 is exactly 2000€uros here in Italy, without any PSU, or 2065€ with, and it's a 13" and not 14".
Battery life on Airs is exceptional and have very good speakers and build quality, though, I'll give you that.

The entire zen 5 line up is one big troll from low end to high end. No doubt about it.

Zen 4 was the last good non troll architecture.
