Comical stuff for sure!!!

While historically a Gaming Console was generally priced <=$500USD, Sony has pushed the pricing up to nearly $1000USD.

Until the introduction of the Steam Deck most PC's marketed with the ability to play 'Games' generally cost >=$1000USD.

Historically "PC Gaming" required devices with a dGPU to have any Gaming Chops however with iGPU's getting better and APU's with 'good enough' iGPU's to play video games (with reduced settings) that can now be found in "mini-PC's" for <=$400USD the use case for a dedicated gaming console may no longer be clear.

While Nintendo, Sony & Xbox all have "ecosystems" where they control everything running on their branded gaming systems (including the store fronts) which can provide easy "plug & play" as well as built in "anti-cheat" for multiplayer games, given the cost of 'good enough' PC hardware and the reduced costs of games on alternate PC gaming markets any advantage a dedicated gaming console may of had in the market has shrunk considerably.

IMHO: pure fanboi's and those with very deep pockets will likely purchase ANYTHING "XBOX" branded no matter the cost the rest of us likely will not.

Game consoles are so 1980s. Most desktop , and even laptop systems can run circles around any game console. Game consoles are obsolete. Get a moderately fast desktop, and sign up for steam. You'll get all the goodness of a game console at a reasonable price, and you can do other stuff on it.

Which it already isn't. It's already being marketed as a high end pc that just happens to to be backwards compatible with old Xbox games through software emulation and have the Xbox badge.

IMHO, anything over $750-$800 is no longer console territory and puts it in pc or another category.

I'm actually not sure..what that point of releasing this at all anymore is, like if I'm right and it really is that much.. it's not going to sell at all, it's clearly not going for market share. If they wish to exit the Xbox gaming hardware business - they could just not release anything at all?

The specs alone indicate rtx 5080 level hardware (in raster, faster in RT) in a 408 mm^2 mega APU. This is the roughly the same size as strix halo except on TSMC 3nm instead of 4nm. Plus 48 GB of GDDR7 memory.

I'm expecting strix halo pricing minimum here, so like $3000-$4000 unless there is serious subsidy going on but haven't seen any evidence of that yet. Even then, $2500 with gamepass & copilot subscription for years..

Doubtful, no one would buy a console for 3000 bucks, thats pc enthusiast level and those people want customization and pc...anything above 1500 bucks isnt niche for consoles, its no market globally

a highly optimized living room gaming pc with a stripped down windows fully focused on gaming and optimization for like 1000-1500 bucks could be really interesting
