Let's face it AI is a thing and not going anywhere anytime soon. Using it for conceptual ideas is great. Using it in some background images I think is a good idea as well it saves time. AI definitely shouldn't be used for characters or object designs that the players interact with.
Side note, what most people don't even realize is that AI is starting to be used in algorithms now for targeted content. Still not widely adopted yet, but will the AI haters stop using YouTube or Netflix or other streaming/media platforms once they do adopt it, if they haven't already?
Get with the times people

Quote from: EthicalAIIsNonsensical on Yesterday at 20:35:25The problem with using AI isn't just if it's outputs exist in the final version of the game or if it's used temporarily. The problem with AI is that it's stealing the work of other people without giving them credit for their intellectual contributions. It's plagiarism.  It's intellectual theft.  It doesn't matter if gamers as a group care about the use of AI in games or not, it's unethical behaviour and society as a whole decides what is acceptable and what isn't. That's a big part of what the constitution is about.

Not really, the biggest concern people have is losing their jobs. That is what it is really about.

It is only plagiarism if the output isn't transformative, if it is transformative than it isn't plagarism. In same sense how a human learns from others and combines them to make new stuff.

That said, regardless where one stands on AI. Using it temporarily is definitely not a problem at all. Because it is hard to argue if you are using AI for personal use only is plagiarism in any sense of the word. If using AI for personal use only is plagiarism, then you surfing the internet is plagiarism. Because your browser makes a copy of the content for your viewing for personal use. This clearly 100% falls into "Fair Use". If you don't believe it does, you owe me a million bucks for plagiarizing this content I am writing now when your browser made a copy to your pc.

The anti-ai people are just very loud; I dont think the majority of people actually care as long as the game is good.

One example of this I saw is AI art on the Hoyoverse app. It would get hundreds to thousands of likes, and like 20 people in the comments complaining about it being AI.

Hell, Larian is using AI to help concept artists explore ideas, but still having 100% of their art done by artists, and that handful of people are still mad.

There's a whole other part of this conversation where're the developers clarify that AI was only used in the concepting stage and all AI generated assets were removed and replaced with artist-created pieces.

I believe the quote was along the lines of 'we are against the use of "creative AI".

Most games are unlikely to depend entirely on machine-generated assets in the near future.

This is a very naive and out of touch statement with how the industry is advancing with and using A.I

The bigger congromates of the industry like your EA for instance will be doing that.

I don't know how you managed to reach that conclusion of the future making zero sense with how A.I is being pushed.

Games amazing, I couldn't give 2 shits if there's AI in it.

Some viewers were scanning trailers at The Game Awards for any signs of generative AI. However, even Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which won nine awards, used AI tools in some capacity. A past interview with the game's producer provides more insight into how the technology benefited Sandfall.
