Well, the ram on the steam machine as announced (but not confirmed), was that it would come with ddr5 so-dimm ram, which is easy enough to change out. But DDr5 laptop ram is so far not that heavily effected. It is going up as panic buying is hitting the laptop market. Will its price rise... almost assuredly. I mean we have few making the stuff now and fewer will be in the coming years.
I doubt this is a good strategy of adoption, it matters little since the consumer is still footing the bill. example: 'Here is a cheap truck, that gets 1 mile to the gallon' What is the point of building something that still puts it wildly out of the hands of your target audience.
IF the steam machine is heavily subsidized (like consoles) they will still make wild amounts of money from the %30 platform on each game sold. But as Sony PS and Nin are building up their publishers, 1rst party developers and their own DDPs - this way they get 30% for developer, 30% for publisher, and 30% for platform of each game sold.
Considering we have given $400 billion in subsidies and tax breaks to the nand makers, I would push them to increase production or start the process of breaking up their monopolies.
Please stop trying to give this idiot credibility. He's wrong almost all the time and the very sughetthat valve would offer a Ski that requires complete disassembly of the steam machine to make it functional is absolutely absurd, ESPECIALLY since it absolutely would not alleviate the problem in the slightest.
Valve may consider shifting the burden of finding affordable components to buyers. A prominent leaker proposes selling a barebones Steam Machine without memory, storage, or controller. The company could still offer the $399 gaming PC even after the DDR5 RAM shortage exhausts its supply of parts.
