Ein Team um Kazunari Matsuda von der Kyoto University hat erstmals eine atomdünne Heterostruktur entwickelt, in der der Bulk-Photovoltaik-Effekt entsteht und sich dank einer magnetischen Unterschicht stufenlos per Magnetfeld regeln lässt. Damit wird das Shockley-Queisser-Limit umgangen, das Spannung und Wirkungsgrad klassischer Solarzellen begrenzt.
