You bring up a very good point and arguably the biggest elephant in the room concerning the future of tech. It is going to get harder to make informed purchases when manufacturers engage in obfuscation and deceptive advertising while online reviews become nothing more than paid advertisement shills.

To be honest, I don't have a problem with refreshes being used. Usually the so called refreshes are cheaper than previous year or have higher clocks.

The most annoying thing is the wattage game where a cpu sku can give half the performance of a lower cpu simply due to different wattage. This makes it impossible to know the actual performance of a laptop unless a review is done of that specific configuration. That is criminal.

It's not just confusing it's down right criminal and AMD is just as bad with refreshes of refreshes fobbed off as though it's the latest. It's designed deliberately to con the consumer.
