From my experience when you buy a device directly from the manufacturer, it does not come with roms. when you buy them off Amazon from Chinese companies that don't care about copyright laws, and who you can't shut down because they'll just pop up under a different name, they are people selling the devices with roms. The actual device manufacturers have nothing to do with that, in my expierence.
What? Anbernic sells their devices with optional sd card combo preloaded with craptonne of roms, literally on their official website. And as far as the software goes, they use plenty of modified GPL software they never bothered to provide their source. Gl getting even the bloody linux kernel source code from them, they will give you nothing and any neccessary changes you need to figure out yourself, which can be a lot of work on many devices. And if you dont see a blatant GPL violating as stealing, then you are a moron.

And as for the artical itself, recommending this particular devices with its control scheme, display and cpu power as good for Dreamcast and PSP is very misleading.

What are the four freedoms and how are these companies complying with them?

The devices are distributed with roms from the source, educate yourself.

Intellectual property is a myth. Pirate everything.

A story about how all of these device makers violate so many software licenses from the stolen code they use for their operating systems to the pirated roms that they ship with might be a better thing to write about rather than advertising their e-waste.

Anbernic has showcased yet another compact retro gaming handheld. Having presented the RG35XX 2024 and RG35XX SP last month, the company has now moved on to the even smaller RG28XX. Nonetheless, the Anbernic RG28XX should still be powerful enough to handle games from up to SEGA Dreamcast and Sony PSP libraries, among other use cases.
