They haven't given up competing in the car market, see Model 2. But anyone with common sense knows there is a limit to growth in a car market and you have much better economics if you share technology between related industries

On top of that, it is also better to share a bigger pie than fight over a tiny pie.

250kW is already at the limit of what most of today's vehicles can accept. The bigger concern is whether these can support the 800V charging necessary to achieve that speed in many non-Tesla vehicles. We need to be building as many 800V and as few 400V systems as possible.

Then we should worry about 250kW vs 350kW.

When Tesla opened its North American Charging Standard for everyone, it got certified as SAE J3400 in record time. The standard now serves to dole out Supercharger licensing under the 'Tesla for all' banner.
