From personal experience, all these solar powered devices have a very short lifespan. The epoxy coated solar cells cook in full sun. In the dustbin within two years!

And what's the max range between base station and the cam?
It's near useless if it needs a base station but cannot be placed at the edge of the property.

Almost interesting...

The market seems bare of wireless remote self contained security cameras.

Most cameras require one or more of the following:

- power
- remote processing (IE: online + service cost)
- remote storage (IE: ditto with being online and having a monthly service cost)

A device that is self powered and could recognize people+animals by itself would be an added bonus however the NEXT leap would be the ability to write to any local LAN storage (IE: NAS) the user has instead of a brand centric dedicated device.

Xiaomi is launching the Solar Outdoor Camera BW400 Pro Set, a new outdoor security camera that comes with a base station for local storage. It can also be operated independently of the power grid thanks to solar power and a rechargeable battery.
