An unusually-informative and well-written, well-translated review. Computer purchasing decisions would be much easier if all models had the benefit of such evaluations. Erste Klasse!
Great article, I just had one question. Is the DVD drive removable so I could replace it with a hard drive caddy?
Thanks
Totally agree with Ralf's comment. A most helpful review.
Thank you :)

Yes: the dvdd drive is removable. I have mine removed and replaced with a harddrive caddy. Google for 3540 HDD caddy!
Also to confirm: this laptop is very quiet. Only with heavy gaming the fan starts to blow. And it definitly gets a boost from replacing the HDD with a SSD!
i own this laptop and i have seen that it can play bf4 in high settings comfortably when i use the high performance power plan and keep it on power. It is also very quiet except during heavy gaming. The touchscreen is also very good.
good thing you pointed out driver support for Win8.1 just went through horrible two days on a pair of these upgrading through to 8.1 I love dell products but these were a pain in the a** and would NOT recommend for users that want to go 8.1
i have a Dell latitude 3540. it was looking superb but it have a problem that is,the entire system was slowly opened.i can try to improve it performance like scanning etc but it did not work for it performance and also it gives a sound(noise) when streaming the videos in youtube.
]please give me a valuable suggestion.
excellent review
Something wrong with the idle power consumption measured of 6.3W. I say that because you have a idle battery runtime of 12.5 hours from a 65Wh battery. That averages to be 5.2W idle power.
I just bought a brand new dell latitude 3540 about April or May this year, and my dvd burner just stopped reading on windows7 ... someone said if I upgraded my OS to windows8 it might solve the issue as that solved theirs but if I do that I may loose my 1 year McAfee antivirus license ... the icon stopped showing in the My Computer page...but when I shutdown and re start, hibernate then re start or restart the system the dvd burner icon comes back on and when I right click and tap eject the tray pops out the I get an error message saying an error occurred while ejecting disk then the dvd icon disappears... before all this the dvd burner could not read discs without me having to first restart the system...now it does not read any disks at all and the light on the tray does not blink at all again... please what could be the problem and where can I get a replacement to buy? Thanks
