Title: Apple MacBook Pro: Developers can position their app menus on either side of the notch or let macOS Monterey hide the notch in compatibility mode
Post by: Redaktion on October 19, 2021, 13:13:28
Developers will be able to position content on either side of the contentious notch on the new Apple MacBook Pros. macOS Monterey will also offer a compatibility mode that can either be provided for by developers or enabled manually the Get Info panel in Finder, which reduces the display area via a black bar hiding the notch area.

Apple creates problems, apple creates solutions. How nice!

Nevertheless, a notch in a laptop is just...............stupid.

How very Apple. Upset a large part of their UI and force developers to adjust to yet another whim just to have a slightly sleeker hardware design...

Everything else beeing copied and even proudly presented on NotebookCHECK - "top notch" is a kind of trademark. Patented!
It may be useful sometimes, annoing sometimes.
Apple please let users toggle "top notch"

It's not that sleek,  thick bezel still there. Android phones can put camera in 1mm hole why can't Apple put it in that bezel.

Whether other OEMs will follow suit or not is something that remains to be seen.

Why would they? Most other OEMs have had slim bezels and no notch for a long time - why would they all of a sudden want to copy Apple's stupidity?
