Title: eGPU gaming: Ice Lake-U processors offer nearly 50% better performance in some games than Comet Lake-H processors do
Post by: Redaktion on October 21, 2020, 17:33:58
It turns out that Ice Lake laptops are better for eGPU gaming than their more powerful Comet Lake-H counterparts, Jarrod's Tech has discovered. Thunderbolt 3 controller placement seems to be at the heart of the difference in performance, which can be nearly 50% in some modern triple-A games. Seemingly, Thunderbolt 3 latency matters more in eGPU gaming than high clock speeds or a superior TDP.

Except the 10750H is a faster/higher-tdp + 6 core cpu. Sadly that's as far as Thunderbolt goes, wish they went twice the data rate like pcie4 with TB4.

This is not new. Max Tech has found this long time back theb when comparing Macbook Pro 13" IceLake vs 16"

There was a lot of news about Thunderbolt 4 but zero info about its real world implementation. The easy conclusion is that Intel and OEMs will continue to scam consumers with crippled 2x PCIe lanes Thunderbolt and all that eGPU hype is a lie.
