Title: Google Play increased its lead in Q4 2017 by downloads, still making less money than Apple's App Store
Post by: Redaktion on January 29, 2018, 11:01:20
Although the amount of Google Play app downloads in Q4 2017 is more than double the number achieved by Apple's App Store, the tables turn when talking about the revenue they generated. In this area, Apple leads with by about 95 percent.

Doesn't that just mean Apple is just ripping off consumers more ?

I've only read a synopsis of the report, so Codrut (article author) might have more input based on the full report.

Remember that these are raw revenue numbers, so it is likely indicating that more paid apps are purchased on the Apple App Store than on the Google Play Store.

Since both are incorporating movies/TV, music, and books into their app stores, I would suspect that sales in these categories are included. Apple would likely have higher sales in this area, especially for music.
