The next-generation Sony Xperia PRO-I smartphone has been teased by a leaker as something that is "unlike anything we've seen before". While specifics are not given, it seems likely that the novelties of the Xperia PRO-I Mark 2 device will be in regard to its camera equipment. In addition, the 2023 Xperia PRO-I is expected to come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.

Even though I'm a huge Sony fan, I'm not holding my breath about this rumour. It could be completely wrong.

Take lesson from chinese brands, 3x 64mp and the likes.
8K, hi res, need for better lens resolution for hi res sensors, edge sharpness.

Yup, sounds too good to be true, although price-wise I believe we deserve these specs. And of course it goes without say that the lenses absolutely must cover the whole sensor! Or else they need to go multi-aspect with an even bigger sensor... which would make a great selling point though. I really don't know why that hasn't happened yet, the thickness should be the same, the lens stays the same, the only difference is that the image circle is better put to use with better quality and wider FoV for 1:1, 16:9, and 21:9 shots...and miniscule differences in sensor cost.
