Europe will be ready for the sub-nanometer processor era with a giant US$80 billion investment by Intel. New fabs in Germany are scheduled to become operational and churn out Angstrom era chips by 2027, while Intel plans a US$33 billion expansion of its Irish foundries for making more down-to-earth 7nm processors.

I'm assuming they got some sort of tax incentive or government subsidy for this. I guess since the US govt wouldn't foot the bill for them they decided to go elsewhere. Considering the current geopolitical concerns with having TSMC in Taiwan due to China and, to a lesser extent, Samsung in Korea due to NK, I question the wisdom of putting a new one so close to Russia, especially with current events.
Don't lie! It is not sub-nanometer but Intel's Angström PR starts at 20 Angström = 2 nm.
