Title: Forget 360Hz, 480Hz displays are on the way and may be available by 2023
Post by: Redaktion on July 26, 2021, 22:51:39
An industry blog asserts that display panels capable of ultra-high 480Hz refresh rates are now in the works. They will allegedly come courtesy of AU Optronics (or AUO) and LG Display, and may go into production at these companies by 2022. Therefore, monitors that can blow the fastest 1080p models of today out of the water might be on the way.

I wanna see a double-bind test that proves that humans who can tell apart anything that goes faster than ~150Hz or so actually exist.

Some time ago people (and screen "specialists") used to say our eyes or our brain are not able to differentiate more than 60fps...
What's going on then?

They were wrong, I guess. That can sure vary by individual - I did see CRT screen flicker up to 75Hz or so (and was very proud of my Trinitron + Matrox setup that could go up to 100Hz, those 20 years ago), and I do see a difference of going from 60Hz to 120Hz refresh rate on an LCD screen.

But surely as well, there's a limit to human perception, with audiovoodoo domain beyond that. And I suspect the limit is not far above 150Hz.
