The ThinkPad brand is celebrating its 25th birthday - the perfect opportunity to take a look back at the development of one of the most well-known laptop brands, remembering both the good and bad sides of ThinkPad history. In the first part of this review we shall be talking about the birth of ThinkPads and their rise to become IBM's cult brand in the 90s.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I had the fortune of purchasing and using the ThinkPad 700, 700C, 720C models for my company. Most people, especially younger users, will not remember or be aware that these notebooks were Microchannel architecture. So clean to upgrade with no cables inside.

I think I ended up using all of those as well as the various 600, 701c, 750X, 770s and the keyboards were always fantastic. These machines were durable as I traveled a great deal and still, today do so, and as such my laptops always take a beating.. Never had a TP die on me which I cannot say the same for my Compaqs, HPs, Dells, and Toshibas.

Great article for such a great product.
