Title: AYA NEO 2021 PRO revealed with an AMD Ryzen 7 4800U, a 2 TB SSD and an exorbitant price to match
Post by: Redaktion on August 10, 2021, 20:48:42
AYA has announced more upgrades for the NEO, its first console. The NEO 2021 PRO features an upgraded APU, more storage and a retro-looking special edition model. The upgrades come at a price though, literally.

Steam's quadruple channel DDR5 on RNDA2 is quite a bit more powerful than this.
Feel sad for them. They're trying, but they can't really compete  :-\

Doesn't LPDDR5 (it's not DDR5) have smaller channels than LPDDR4?

Steam Deck's DDR5 memory achieves 5,500 MT/s (per channel, and it has 4)
AYA NEO's DDR4 probably does 2,666 to 3,200 MT/s (per channel, and it has either 1 or 2, not more).

Well, it's difficult to compete with products that haven't been released and that aren't available to small companies, like the Van Gogh APU (previous APUs can't use LPDDR5 in the first place). But don't worry, after the Steam Deck will join the Steam Machines and the Steam Controller in the graveyards of the failed Valve hardware the guys behind Aya Neo and the other portables that already exist will come up with something better.

This is painful to watch. In literally every Steam Deck Video it's compared the Neo and it beats it in most things. So the fact that they came out with a more powerful version is funny and sad. I actually was expecting it and was super sure it was going to launch on the market before The Deck. Some exec saw this and went "hell No we're shipping now !!". What makes this even sadder is despite their best efforts it wont compete in any meaning full way to the Deck. People complained about the Deck's pricing then this launches at 1300$ US, wow. I wish them luck, hopefully I am wrong and they come out on top.

Valve has done more for Linux gaming than any of these companies, so I hope Valve comes out on top.

While GPD, OneNet and AYA offer some compelling hardware there is no way they can possibly compete with the Deck at those prices.
The Deck just is better overall ,   more powerful and run by a reputable company that if you run into any issues at least you wont have to deal with small Chinese companies that are notoriously bad with repair/return policies.
It was nice knowing you but I don't see them surviving much outside of China
