Title: Sky-high AMD Ryzen 9 5950X prices provide an unsettlingly discouraging snapshot for PC builders of the effects of the 2021 global chip shortage
Post by: Redaktion on April 10, 2021, 14:18:40
A timely reminder has been shared of how the current global chip famine has affected processor prices, in this case specifically for the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X. While retailers who have tried to stay close to MSRP are invariably out of stock, those with Ryzen 9 5950X CPUs to sell are mostly setting astronomical price tags for the Zen 3 powerhouse.

this is all thanks to AMD fans

they refused to buy AMD and support their side of the fence in favour for the higher quality parts from Intel and NVIDIA and now this is the result.

thanks AMD fans

unless you need the cores for applications other than gaming.... the 5600x is your friend. I bought mine for $299 on ebay.

anything beyond the 5600x for games (at least right now) is overkill and a half.

Top tier isn't that much better anymore. You benefits just don't add up vs the added cost hit. No doubt this is not the best time to be building that optimal gaming rig you've wanted. I think we have reached another plateau in CPU performance even with tacking on all those extra cores. Save your money for the graphics because that's gonna really hurt.

If you just want to play games and you're not even interested in overclocking, even something as low as 11400 will do just fine. That's under $200. I would say put the difference towards GPU... if only they were available.

Something like 5950X is really more for professionals who can use those cores. No game can. At best, you might benefit from better bin.
